Atwimah Nwabiagya South Representative Emmanuel Adjei Ahwire was chased from his constituency by residents of the Ashanti towns of Amankyea and Kobeng.
The MP visited the district as part of a “Talk to Your MP” tour to discuss concerns hurting their economy.
However, when they saw him, enraged Kobeng residents who were reportedly unhappy with the MP’s performance began verbally attacking him.
The MP was attacked by irate locals who were upset about the area’s inadequate road system and hurled different objects at him.
It took his security detail to diffuse the situation and remove him.
Mr. Adjei Ahwire detailed the incident on Abusua FM, claiming he was unharmed but calling the outcome disappointing.
While pointing out that ongoing projects had been abandoned, the MP nevertheless stated that his constituents have every right to complain the lack of development projects in their area.
He attributed the predicament to COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
He continued by saying that the Minister for Roads and Highways has been informed of their concerns.
This is the second time a member of parliament has come under assault in Ashanti, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) stronghold, for the area’s lack of development.
